More changes

The bishopric in the Whitney 2nd Ward was released & a new bishopric sustained. Released was Bishop Brandon Stephenson; 1st counselor, Tim Golightly; 2nd counselor, Daren Cole; executive secretary, Donnie Sanderson; ward clerk, Bill Ponciano; financial clerks, Brett Bloom & Matt Gleed; & membership clerk, Burke Burns.

New bishopric: Bishop, Jim Summers; 1st, Jon Reese; 2nd, Darren Kelley; Executive secretary, Bill Ponciano; Clerks, Stanley Butler, Brett Bloom & Burke Burns. Everyone is commenting on how different Bishop Summers will look clean shaven. It will be a change. Since he was released as a counselor in a bishopric several years ago, he has worn a neatly trimmed beard.

The carpet was installed today. It looks better than I expected it to look. They expected it to take 2 days, but one man installed it today. They picked up the baseboards today.

I'm still not sure we'll keep the house, but we're working on the assumption we will. I certainly look forward to moving home. If I would just remember to get Mother's money so we can start working on the house itself.

Changes

I am so glad to be back on the lexapro. The angst isn't nearly as bad
angst defined by TheFreeDictionary
A feeling of anxiety or apprehension often accompanied by depression.
& tears & suicide ideation.

Last week the ward boundaries in the Preston 1st, 5th, 8th, Whitney 2nd, Franklin 2nd and 3rd wards in the Franklin Stake were changed. Six out of the 11 wards in the stake. Whitney 2nd Ward went from being the smallest ward in the stake to one of the two largest. They took one small block, but 50 of our members, & gave them to Preston 1st Ward. Then took 100 members, a subdivision, from the Preston 1st Ward & put them in Whitney 2nd. Preston 1st Ward's bishop & Relief Society president were among those people. Now this week Preston 1st & Whitney 2nd wards get new bishops. Our bishop had already moved from the ward.

I hope we soon get the house straightened out. Once we get it finished, Mother & I can move home. So tomorrow we see who our new bishop is.

February already

The second Sunday in February no less, also Feb. 8.

I received a legal, also known as a public notice, at work (local newspaper) yesterday. It was for a meeting set for the second Monday in March, also known as March 2. I laughed over that, then decided I'd better see if it was saying what I thought it said, so I grabbed the lady that had numbered that legal for me. She laughed too & said that I would probably be calling on that first thing Monday morning. I said I didn't think I would, I don't like the guy that submitted it. Now that was petty & I knew it, I'll definitely be calling Monday morning.

We found out last Sunday that Mother has a compression fracture in the middle of her back. Our neighbor, Paula Gordon, told me that Instacare is open 7 days a week. Mother has been so miserable. It's because of that fall she had Jan. 10. Why it took so long to surface I don't know. But she didn't feel like going to get her hair done today. She hasn't had a bath or a shower for about 4 weeks now. The doctor at the wound clinic doesn't want her getting her leg wet. So, she's just had "spit" baths, I call them.

Mother spent most of the day crying. Nick went to check on her this morning & she asked him to send his mother over. Don-Mike had told me when he came this morning that she was "terrible" & wouldn't let him fix her any breakfast. And she didn't want Tim (Brother Golightly) coming today, she didn't want to have to get up & answer the door.

Don-Mike wanted to know why Tim would be coming today. I said he wouldn't be coming today, it was Saturday. So, then he wanted to know why Tim would be coming tomorrow, it wasn't Fast Sunday(1). I told him that the priests(2) had skipped Mother last Sunday when they were taking the Sacrament(3) around to the shut ins. I had called Tim & he had promised to bring her the Sacrament this week. If I remember, I'll remind him tomorrow.

Brother Golightly is in the bishopric(4) & I guess he's the one that takes the priests around to administer the Sacrament to those who can't make it to church. They do it once a month on Fast Sunday.

Tonight I fixed chili at Mother's. OMG, it's the worst chili I've ever fixed. Nick wouldn't come & eat because chili didn't sound good. It sure did to me, but I have felt like crying ever since I ate. I think the big problem though, was the whole package of sugar free chocolate peanut clusters I ate on the way home from Smithfield. It wasn't nearly as good as the real thing. The chocolate was so sweet & I felt like sicking up even before I ate the chili.

I went to Smithfield to the dollar store to buy some mugs for our DUP(5) camp meeting. We were supposed to have the meeting at Mother's on Tuesday, Feb. 10, also known as the second Tuesday in February, but we were worried about parking. Mother lives on the main highway into town & there is basically no parking unless we park in the street & the drain clogs up right there. That's where Don-Mike lost his new phone the first of January, trying to unclog that drain. We didn't want the ladies getting their cars hit or having to wade through the water. My friend, Jean Carter, said she'd just park out by the canal & hope someone would come along & run into her car like someone did Don-Mike's on Christmas Day & then she could get a new car, LOL.

I told her we'd already changed the venue & we are having it at Jeanne Cutler's. She doesn't live on the main highway, she lives on a corner & has a double driveway. Even with snow there is ample parking. I just won't get behind Beth Gunnell this time. We had meeting at Jeanne's in December & I told Mother to wait for me. I would go move the car because I had parked behind Beth & Beth wanted to go. I told Mother I would come back in for her because I had some stuff I was going to pick up. She says she didn't hear me. I even told Ray, Jeanne's husband, to tell Mother to wait for me. Well, Beth hurried Mother out & was bringing my stuff & dropped my spaghetti ladle on the cement in the driveway & broke it. I was so upset & in tears, not because of the spaghetti ladle, even though it was brand new, but just because I was feeling overwhelmed.

We've been told we can't serve lunch or a meal, just refreshments, at our DUP meetings this year. Well, I have diabetes & I can't have the sugary stuff unless it's sugar free. I decided long before I knew I had diabetes that I wasn't going to serve "refreshments" anyway when it was my turn to be hostess. I was going to serve tomato soup & little triangles of grilled cheese sandwiches. The soup is red & we're having it Valentine's Day week. Now, I know that other things have carbs & you're not supposed to have lots of carbs either. Mother wanted to serve punch & cookies. She's co-hostess.

Anyway, I've been thinking about this for months & finally decided I'd better get the soup mugs. Well, they had some really pretty mugs, but I was going to have to buy 12 & that was $12. I was feeling that I really wasn't being very economical. There are other things I NEED & I only WANTED soup mugs. I decided I'd pull up my big girl pants, swallow my obsession with pretty soup mugs & use styrofoam cups. I could get a package of styrofoam cups for $1, a package of pretty Valentine napkins & matching cups for water for $1 each for a total of $3. Besides, I wouldn't have to wash styrofoam cups or even find a place to store them once DUP was over.

I'm going to get some cans of Campbell's family size soup, milk & buy some cheesy breadsticks from Pizza Villa. I'll make the soup up & put it in the crockpot & it can heat while we have our meeting. Maybe Don-Mike can order & deliver the breadsticks for me, if he doesn't have to work.

I still haven't written up the minutes for the last 4 months, argh! I'm the secretary of our camp.

Footnotes:
(1) Fast Sunday - Generally the first Sunday of the month & because we "fast," or go without food, it certainly doesn't seem to go very quickly or fast.
(2) priests - young men who bless the Sacrament
(3) Sacrament - could probably be likened to communion in the Catholic Church
(4) bishopric - the bishop & counselors
(5) DUP - Daughters of the Utah Pioneers

Last Sunday of 2008

Next week our ward(1) goes from the early schedule(2), 9 a.m.-noon, to the middle schedule, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Maybe I'll be able to get up & go to Sacrament meeting(3). I have had a hard time getting to the library at 10:10 this year. I haven't been to Sacrament meeting, which is the first meeting of the block(4), very many times this year because 9 a.m. is too early for me. I am always so tired that it is nothing for me to sleep 10-12 hours a night.

Today Don-Mikel gave Sharing Time(5) in Primary(6). He did a great job of including the children. I went up for part of it. I missed the first part. He had the children sing, "Do As I'm Doing." He assigned the two boys in his class to stand in front of the Primary & do anything they wanted, but not to follow him. The Primary president said she was watching the boys thinking, "They're just goofing off. They're not following him."

When they finished singing, Don-Mike thanked the kids in Primary for following him & not following the boys. He went on to introduce a scripture in puzzle pieces. Then he showed pictures from the Gospel Arts Kit(7). He showed a picture of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus & then asked how the kids could follow Jesus. That was an easy one to answer, but some of the other pictures were more abstract, like Jesus walking on water.

He asked the children to draw a picture of how they could follow Jesus. By drawing a picture the Sunbeams(8) could participate. The children could then share their pictures with the group. One little Sunbeam got up & she described her picture in detail, LOL. It was so cute. I'm glad she explained it, because it didn't look anything like what she was saying. While the children were drawing their pictures, Don-Mike had the song, "I will follow Jesus," playing on his boom box.

There were several times when I thought, "That's not how we discussed it." I thought of jumping in a couple of times, but restrained myself. I reminded myself that I have been in Primary off & on for over 35 years. At the age of 23, I would not have been in front of a group of teachers & children giving a Sharing Time. He has improved so much since the first time he gave Sharing Time two years ago.

Back in the library(9), I was able to hear part of Don's priesthood(10) lesson on listening to the spirit. The Elder's Quorum meets in a room across the hall & down a small hall from the library. They usually have the door open. As he was telling about our Christmas Day, a couple of people came to the library & needed help, so I could no longer listen. During that little noisy bit of time, someone closed the door to the classroom.

EXPLANATION OF FOOTNOTES:
For my friends who are not LDS, let me explain a few of the terms I have used. It seems like LDS people almost speak a different language.

Sacrament Meeting(3) is the worship service for all members of the ward(1) or congregation. It lasts an hour and 10 minutes. A block(4) is the time spent in meetings. We meet in a block schedule(2) of 3 hours & then we are through & can go home. Each church building has at least 2 wards meet in them. Our building has 3 wards meet there. Our ward has had the early schedule this year. We will go to the middle schedule come January 1 & in 2010, we will go to the late schedule, 1-4 p.m.

Don-Mike teaches the 8-10-year-old boys in Primary(6) or Sunday School. Primary meets right after Sacrament Meeting for almost 2 hours. They have an opening exercise where the children will give talks, a scripture & an adult, usually a member of the Primary presidency or a member of the bishopric, the three men who lead the ward, will give a "talk." A story or something like that. They also sing. Then they have singing time for 20 minutes where they learn songs & have fun with singing. After singing time, they have Sharing Time(5). Every 4th Sunday a Primary teacher gives Sharing Time. A 20 minute lesson with activities, songs, skits to the entire Primary. Our Primary is so small that we only have one session. So, it's a challenge trying to give a "lesson" that will involve children from 3 years old to 11 years old. They then have 40 minutes of class time.

The Gospel Arts Kit(7) is a box of pictures on gospel subjects, Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, Church History, General (subjects) & Gospel in Action. Some areas of the world do not have a library(9) or a room that is set aside for housing visual aids such as pictures, posters, flannelboard stories & other things like that. There are also TVs, VCR & DVD players w/videos, DVDs, books, office supplies, chalk & eraser, easels, manuals, magazines. All they have is the Gospel Arts Kit. I have been asked to be the ward librarian or the keeper of the library, LOL. Don helps me in this job.

The different age groups in Primary have names. A Sunbeam(8) is a small child of 3 years old.

While the children are in Primary, the adults have their own meetings. Right after Sacrament meeting is Sunday School. After Sunday School, teenagers & adults move into a third meeting. The teenage girls from 12-18 years old are in Young Women. They meet in an opening exercise & then move into class sessions divided by age groups. The adult women from 18 to the elderly, have Relief Society, a women's organization, & are given lessons. The men & teenage boys from 12-18 years old are in Priesthood(10) meetings, also divided by age groups. The Elders are from age 18 to the elderly. They also have lessons &, as I mentioned, Don teaches the 4th Sunday lesson.

How to explain the priesthood? Here is a link to check that out, if you are interested.
