We had the first snow of the season last night. I am so not ready for it. But in this semi-arid desert, it is necessary for survival. I should have taken a picture of it, but didn't.
I turned the ceiling fan switch to blow the warm air down. I broke down & put some socks on my feet & found my leather moccasins to wear instead of the croc sandals. I found a thermal shirt & will have to dig out my winter pjs.
Last night I went to the medicine cabinet to see if I could find some tape for one of the incisions on my tummy. It was bright red & oozing pus. The medicine cabinet in the kitchen is right by the old back door. The wind was blowing in. I wondered if the windows in the laundry room were closed. Don said yes. The front door is so loose you can see daylight around it. I have asked for over a year to change that door & get a new one, but to no avail. I hate having to pay such high gas & electrical bills because our house is so drafty. I'm glad Mother is in Aunt Vi's snug little house.
Don asked me if we had any triple antibiotic ointment for my incision. I said no, I'd used hydrogen peroxide & tit salve (petro-carbo). He asked if Mother had some neosporin, I said no. I forgot to get some at the grocery store pharmacy section or at the pharmacy today.

Memorial poems
My dad would have been 100 years old on Oct. 28, 2009. I've been thinking about putting In Memoriam in the Citizen that week. So, today, I've been computerizing all day. I have TBnB (tired butt & back) & I'm headed to bed, but, I found some poems on Elegant Memorials. I want to find the site again. What better place than my blog???
This year would be Mother & Daddy's 65th wedding anniversary also. I'd like to put something in the paper for that too.
Well, I'm so tired & itchy, it's time to give up my computerizing & go to bed. Don-Mike's home from work, most of the cats are in, so a pain pill & bedtime for me.
Uggg, Don just turned off the computer, guess he will beat me to bed & I'll have to stay up, groan. Now Nick's melting down, sigh.
God Took Him To His Loving HomeAnd another one:
God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be.
He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’
He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend.
He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.
He tried so hard to stay with us but his fight was not in vain,
God took him to His loving home and freed him from the pain.
Anon
The Broken ChainI'd also like to do something special for his 100th birthday. I should be in Salt Lake that day, if things go as planned, so I'm thinking. Still have a little over 4 weeks to think.
I little knew that morning. God was going to call your name, In life I loved you dearly, in
death I do the same. It broke my heart to loose you, you did not go alone, for part of me
went with you, the day God called you home. You left me beautiful memories your love
is still my guide, and though we cannot see you, you're always at my side. Our family
chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain
will link again.

Tuesday night dinner
So, no, I didn't report on the lovely dinner we had last night courtesy of my fantastic visiting teacher, Karen Child. She called yesterday afternoon & asked if she could bring dinner in. This was the day of. She brought in a pan of chicken enchiladas, a bag of chips, a container of salsa, a plate of fresh cucumbers & sliced tomatoes, rice & beans and a fresh peach pie. Mmmmm, it was to die for. The rice & beans were absolutely delicious. As was everything else..
Visiting teachers
I have two fantastic visiting teachers. I know now, though, why I haven't let people in my house.
I made a status report on Facebook that I was having surgery, so Angie Griffeth, the RS president, told Karen Child, my visiting teacher. I hadn't made a general announcement until then. The only reason I did then was because I was going to be offline & didn't want anyone wondering where I was. I certainly didn't call Karen & say, I'm having surgery, now you need to take care of me. Mother was taken care of. Don had 2 days off & could care for me. So, I saw no need to announce it to the Relief Society.
My friend Jean Carter called to see how I was doing. She found out I was having surgery because I wasn't at work Monday. She asked if I'd called my visiting teachers & I said no. She wanted to know who they were. I told her & she called Karen. Karen almost immediately called & asked if she could bring dinner in. The only night we didn't have covered was Thursday night, but Karen is busy that night with the state Junior Miss competition for her daughter. She wanted to know if she could bring it in that day. She called on Tuesday. So, I said yes.
Did I already report on this? Anyway, I told her not to trip on anything through my house when she came. When I was having chemo, the RS brought in dinner every week on the day I had chemo. Alexis Beckstead tripped on the rice bucket when she brought dinner in. I was so embarrassed. I've been pretty good about keeping people out of the house since. But Karen brought a full course dinner & made several trips in & out.
Today, Karen called & talked to Nick before I was awake. She said she & Alice Johnson, her visiting teaching companion, were coming over to clean up the kitchen. OMG! I told Karen I didn't even know where to tell her to start. She said she didn't know either. They washed dishes, emptied the dishwasher, cleaned counter tops. As she cleaned one counter top off, it was covered with mouse droppings. Ewwww!!! I got the Clorox out & told her that 1 part of Clorox to nine parts of water is supposed to clean up mouse droppings. Now, they'll probably get hantavirus & die.
Will we get hantavirus? Nah! We must be immune to it. We have all these house cats & the mice run wild.

Computerizing
The good doctor has given me permission to "computerize." His word. So, I came in, changed the background on my blog & I'll probably work on some Halloween/fall backgrounds for the Bipolar Kids site.
The gall bladder was "yucky" & is in a bottle. I stayed overnight & was sure glad to have my CPAP along with me. The respiratory therapist told me the difference between BiPAP & CPAP. Continuous Positive Air Pressure blows a constant pressure, no fluctuating & acts as a stent to hold the airway open. While a biPAP is a Bilevel Positive Air Pressure. There is one level for breathing in & one level for breathing out. So, I'll have to tell Mother. Hers is a BiPAP. The therapist also said that not many people use their CPAP faithfully. Man, I can't imagine not using it faithfully. I'd never get any sleep. I also had to have oxygen with my CPAP. I felt a lot better this morning.
I am housebound. I cannot work. He told me I could read, computerize, sit and other things, but cannot "work." In other words, life as usual. Who works at home? Look at my house & you know the answer is "Not RaNae." He asked me when I had to be back to work, I told him Monday. Actually, I need to go in & do my legals on Friday.
They did another 18 page paper today. I discovered they can live without me. They did a great job. I stopped into the paper long enough to see if they got the missionary I screwed up on last week in. I told his mother I would make sure it ran this week. It did!
I came home & took a pain pill & a nap. Don & Nick had gone to Subway for lunch. Don gave me part of his sandwich when I got up. I am now computerizing.
The top number on my blood pressure was in the 90s. Dr. Broadbent said not to take my lisinopril for a couple of days. He also said to have my BP checked before I go back on the medication. My potassium was at 3.4 yesterday morning. Still not within normal limits (WNL) but acceptable. He thinks I need to up my potassium intake by half a pill, or in otherwords, 50 meq instead of 40.
Don-Mike was supposed to have the day off, but was called in to work lunch. They had 2 people call in sick. After lunch, he took Mother to Logan for her protime. Good thing she didn't go with Don to get it done. Cache Valley Specialty Hospital is the slowest hospital I have ever been in. Also, as Don said, it was better for Don-Mike to take her this afternoon. Mother doesn't feel good in the mornings. It takes her til afternoon to get feeling better. Sounds like me.

Something to ponder
Back in 1997, I finished a medical assisting course at Bridgerland Applied Technology Center (BATC). Center now stands for college. Don got his teaching degree at Weber State University. It had just been upgraded to a university from a college. Interesting what is in a name, huh?
Anyway, Don & I were talking the other night how the medical assisting course has helped me over the years in dealing with our health issues, mine, Nick's & Mother's. I said I'd always been grateful to have that knowledge, even if I couldn't use it in an employment situation. He said that perhaps the reason I had needed to take the course was for our own personal use. Something to ponder.
I wish Don-Mike & Nick would take advantage of BATC. But ... if wishes were fishes, we'd all have a great fry.

Potassium still low
Dr. Broadbent called today about 4:45 to tell me my potassium is low. I told him I was feeling great. I was, it was late afternoon & after my usual slow start, I was finally getting something done. I asked him what it was & he said it was 3.1. I told him that was good, for me. A lot better than it was 2 weeks ago when he scared me so badly.
No, he wants it at 3.6 when I have my surgery on Monday. He wanted to know what I'd been doing to raise my potassium level. I told him I was taking my normal potassium dosage, 40 meqs a day. He wants me to up it to 80 meqs for the weekend & that should bring it up to normal limits by Monday.
I need to drink lots of water between now & Monday so they can get an IV in. I absolutely dread IVs. It takes several pokes for them to finally get one in.
I also asked about the red blood count. It was a little low, as is normal, but nothing to worry about.
Nick paid his speeding ticket today. Bill, his psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) counselor came over today. I heard them talking about road rage, so I came back in, took my hearing aid out & made some telephone calls.

Pre-op appointment today
Today I was supposed to be able to sleep in, dream on! At 3:30 a.m., I woke up to Don kissing my hand. Nick was not feeling good & needed to know what to do for diarrhea. I woke up long enough to tell them where the anti-diarrheal pills were. Nick had woken his dad up. I told them where the pills were & for Nick to take 2. At 8:15, I woke up to Nick poking my hand. He wanted to know if he needed to take another anti-diarrheal pill. Yes, if he'd had another bout of diarrhea. He spent most of the day napping, while I had to run errands & go to the pre-op appointment in Logan for my gall bladder surgery on Monday.
I made it to the doctor's appt. a little bit late. Dr. Broadbent explained the procedure, they gave me the paperwork to take to Cache Valley Specialty Hospital (CVSH) for bloodwork & an EKG. Because a friend had told me that he'd done her gall bladder surgery & also repaired her herniated belly button, I asked him if he could do it for me. He wanted to look at my belly button. I told him it was a Dr. Orvid Cutler belly button, but it hadn't survived 2 pregnancies very well. He checked it & said he'd be glad to fix it. A couple of stitches & it would be as good as new. Kewl!! Thx Carolyn.
The hospital stay will be overnight. I have so many health problems Dr. B. wants to keep me overnight. He also put me first on the surgical schedule. I have to be at CVSH at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, which means a 5:45 wake up time.
Before we went over to CVSH, I took Mother to Cache Valley Cardiology, Dr. Otrusinik's office, for her pro-time. It was 4.9! Ack! It had risen from 2.7 in one week. We need to recheck in one week. Mother will have to go down with Don Tuesday morning when he picks me up. Unless Don-Mike has Tuesday or Wednesday off & can take her. Nick also has a dentist appt., Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. I told Don I was glad he'd taken both Monday & Tuesday off, because he could substitute for me on Tuesday.
That's the bad thing about having no siblings, there is no one to spell you. I had a Church member tell me on my mission, actually she told my companion & my comp told me that I take being an only child too seriously. I don't think I take it serious enough. I have some real guilt issues when it comes to Daddy & not being there for he & Mother when he was so sick.
I didn't start out life as an only child. I am the youngest of three. My sister, Wanda, was born in November of 1946. My brother, Eldon, was born in March of 1949 & I was born in August of 1950. Eldon & I are 16 months apart. Life would have been a lot different if he had lived. As it was, he was injured at birth. My mom was in the hospital, but the doctor hadn't made it yet. The baby's head was crowning & the nurse panicked & pushed my mother's legs together, crushing the baby's head. He lived for 12 days. Mother & Daddy did not get a picture of him. Mother's oldest brother was supposed to take a picture of him. If he did, Mother never got a picture. My parents didn't have a camera.
My mother was very sick when I was born, something to do with blood. They didn't expect her to live. She was in the hospital for weeks. She was never able to have another child. She had a couple of miscarriages. I have Rh negative blood & she has Rh positive blood. I think that played a role in the fact that she was not able to carry another pregnancy to term.
My sister Wanda died 10 days after her 24th birthday of the side effects of cortisone given to her for the treatment of lupus, systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE. In 1970, they said it was cancer. Daddy died on Grandma Porter's birthday, May 26, 1992.
So, there is just me. Mother, however, comes from a large family of 8, 3 boys & 5 girls. Most of her sisters & brothers have large families, although there are 2 sisters with 3 kids. Their kids are all living, grown, married & have pretty large families. So, Mother feels left out. It really irks me when people brag about their large posterity.
We have a full quorum of family almost every Sunday. I feel overwhelmed with no siblings and sons, not daughters, to help care for Mother. But my sons are a big help. Especially Don-Mike.
Don-Mike & Mother live in Aunt Vi's house, across town. Mother's sister Luana rents it out. Vi was Luana's sister-in-law. There is not room for 5 adults here. It is a small 2 bedroom home. Don & I slept in a camper out back for years. We decided it was time to build on to our house in 2007 & the camper had to be moved. Don-Mike & Nick were sharing a room & they needed their own space. Luana's rental came vacant at the perfect time. It's a cute 2 bedroom home. I think it is the only way Mother would have moved out of her house.
I was going through chemo at the time & it would have been impossible for me to climb in & out of that camper. I couldn't sleep in there during the day anyway, because it was too hot.
Sorry I went off on a tangent. It sounds like a pity party, but it isn't really. It's "just the facts ma'am," as Sgt. Joe Friday of Dragnet would say.
I am very grateful for my husband & our sons. I am also very grateful to have children as the doctor told me that I would never be able to carry a pregnancy to term. We got 2 out of 6. Heavenly Father definitely knew what He was doing when He stopped at 2. I have 2 very determined sons. They beat the odds of getting here & are persistent. Sometimes not as determined & persistent as I want them to be in some areas, but we'll save that for another post.
As for me, I haven't discovered what my purpose here on earth is.

Stuff I forgot to mention ...
Mick, Vicki's husband, will have to have a blood transfusion tomorrow, as well as his regular chemo treatment. Actor Patrick Swayze died today at the age of 57 from pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is what Mick is battling & what Grandma Porter died of.
I got Mufasa an appt to be groomed on Thursday, Sept. 24. The receptionist at the Animal Medical Clinic suggested Tuesday, Sept. 22, but I said no, I was having surgery on Monday, Sept. 21. They didn't have my name on file, but they did have Mufasa. I thought that was kind of funny. It sounded like the kennel has been upgraded from Kim's status on Facebook. I also gleaned that she is having all of her teeth removed tomorrow! Ack!!!
The kitten is finally settling down. They still can't let her out of the dog carrier though, she hides & then yowls. She won't eat wet cat food out of a tin, but loves dry cat food. Rhonda says she cries the whole time she's drinking. Jordan says if he wasn't watching her drink, he'd think she was drowning, LOL. She doesn't have a name yet.

Book store cat
Today Ann, the business manager at the Citizen, came back to warn us of a mouse on the loose. It seems she heard some rustling in her garbage can & found a mouse. The Citizen is an old building & the tunnel isn't secure. The garage doors do not go all the way to the pavement, so mice can get in off the street, besides the mice we already have.
Anyway, I mused about the mice we have. I was thinking about places that have cats in their businesses. Our vet's office has a live in cat. She wanders the building & can be found asleep on the counter. Her name is Lovie.
As a lark, I went into Kelly's office & told him we needed a book store cat. He practically yelled at me, "Don't try & pawn your cat off on me!" I said I wasn't, the kitten already had a home. I just thought we needed a cat to keep the mouse population down. He said he didn't want a cat. We couldn't have a cat anyway, Jessi is allergic to cats
The real reason I had gone in was to tell him that Vicki had called with an update on Mick, her husband. He didn't have to have surgery today. He was dehydrated & had to have an infusion of glucose & a shot for his low white blood count. They didn't get through until about 4:30. It's a good thing that Karen could come in today & help.
We had an 18 page paper, with 9 and half pages of ads. FOUR full page ads. I worked 12 hours, 8 to 8, & only have 5 pages to do in the morning. One of them has already been proofed. I just need to make the changes. It'll be an early night tonight, so I can have another early morning start.

The rest of the story ...
I heard a kitten meowing when I got out of the car behind the Citizen, Friday afternoon. It wasn't loud. I looked around & couldn't see it, so I went on into the building, clocked in & sat down at the computer.
A very short half hour later, Courtney came in with her baby Winnie, asking what was going on with the kitten in the engine. I went out with her & Richard's car had the hood up & a kitten was meowing pitifully. I couldn't see it, but Courtney could. She went into Rounds Insurance & asked about the kitten in Richard's engine. I don't remember Richard's last name. He said they'd got it out once. He came out with a broom & prodded it out from the engine. It ran down a couple of cars & climbed in someone else's car engine. Richard went back into Rounds & came out with the key. Courtney had left Winnie alone in the Citizen, so she went back in.
The kitten was prodded out of that engine & ran across the alley to the bank of cars parked along the curb. We got it out of that car by making noises. It ran down a few more cars. It went into another car engine. I thought it was Courtney's car, so I called the Citizen & asked Nancy Dent to send Courtney out. It wasn't her car, but she handed me Winnie, got down on her hands & knees & fished the cat out. I took it & cuddled it. Richard took his broom back into his office & I went back in to work.
Two hours later, I'm still messing with the yowling kitten. Finally, I took it out into the "tunnel." It is a roof built over a narrow space between Rounds Insurance & the Citizen building with garage doors at either end. We use it as storage & call it the tunnel. I put a box over the box I had the kitten in. I decided since I'd messed with the kitten so long, I'd clock out & call it a day. I checked Courtney's time card to see when she had logged in & used that as the time I logged out.
No one was going to take the poor little kitten. Nancy Dent couldn't because she already has 4 house cats. I have 5 cats & they don't get along too well as it is. Rhonda decided she'd take it. Nancy Cale put an ad in the lost & found section of the Classifieds. But I don't think it was lost. I think it was abandoned.
When Rhonda's kids came from school they went out to the tunnel & the kitten had escaped from the boxes. They could hear it under a pallet with boxes stacked on it. Jordan, her son, took all the boxes off the pallet & had to lift the pallet to pick up the kitten.
After I took the kitten into the Citizen, I called Nick & asked him to bring a styrofoam bowl & a can of cat food. She spilled the water, hid in the corner of the bathroom where I had incarcerated her & screamed. Kelly came out of his office & told me he wasn't going to put up with that cat. That's when I took her to the tunnel. She didn't even touch the cat food.
I called Rhonda Saturday morning to see if she knew of anyone with sheep shears. She wasn't home, but Jordan said he'd have her call me. I asked about the kitten. He said when they got home, she jumped out of the car & climbed a tree. They got her down & she had eaten a little bit of food Saturday morning.
Kim's ex-husband, Gil Hokanson, Shari's dad, is here until Tuesday. He's building a cinder block bldg. for Mufasa. He dropped a cinder block on his foot & broke all the bones across the top of his foot. Gil said he'd shear him if we could find some sheep shears. He thinks that if we shear him so that he still has 2 inches of fur left, he'll have time to grow in his winter coat before the snow flies. He is so matted where he drools down the front of him, it is pathetic.
I called Loraine Selman, a cousin. They run sheep. She said it would be just as cheap to have him groomed, as it would be for me to drive to Tremonton, get the shears & take them back. She has a point there. I called a neighbor that has had sheep & she said to take Mufasa to the Animal Medical Clinic, they have a groomer & they are the most reasonable dog groomers in town. So, I'll call them tomorrow & see when I can get an appt.
I didn't get a picture of the cute little tortoise shell kitten & I don't have a picture of Mufasa & his matted chest. I will try to get a before & after picture of Mufasa.

Kitten rescued
Thx Richard & Courtney for helping me catch the poor mewling kitten. Thx to Rhonda for fostering her. Ok, probably adopting her cuz I'm sure she was dumped off in the alley behind the Citizen. Jordan moved a ton of boxes & a pallet in the tunnel to retrieve her after she escaped from the box. Thx to Nick for bringing a dish & a tin of cat food, which the poor kitten didn't seem to know what to do with

In remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001
Sept. 11, 2001, is a day that is indelibly burned in my mind. There are days like that. Being a child of the '60s, there have been too many of those days. The assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., martyrs of their time.
I guess I'll always feel guilty that I didn't sit down with Nick & watch the events playing out before our very eyes that Tuesday morning in 2001. It really bothered him. He was 14 years old. We were homeschooling him, so he was at home. I couldn't sit down because it was a Tuesday, the day The Citizen went to press. The paper had to go out. At that time, we had to call in dead if we wanted any time off on a production day.
I received this email from a fellow administrator from Yuku, a group of online communities.

Trip to Logan
I did remember to dry my clothes & hang them up. This time I hung them up in the closet instead of in the hallway for the cats to lay on. I think the cat poop was from Astro. But he's been dead over a year now. Can you tell when the last time I wore that outfit was??
I also took the towels out of the bath tub & washed them. They were stinky. I was going to put vinegar in the wash, but didn't. They were still sitting in the washer when Don got home. He asked if it was ok to start the washer. I said yes, totally forgetting why I had not washed them earlier.
I had to take Mother to Logan to get her pro-time checked. It was 2.7. We bummed a ride down with Don-Mike & Nick.

Run, run ...
I had a Little Gingerbread Man day today. The Gingerbread Syndrome is where a day is jam packed with things to do. One of those days when you put a whole week's running into as short of a space of time as you can.
I had to work today. It was a normal Tuesday morning with a twist. The day after a Monday holiday is a pure adrenalin rush. Trying to finish pages that have been left specifically to absorb the holiday weekend's repercussions. Well, this weekend, there weren't any. No accidents, no late breaking news. We had saved 2 pages for sports, only needed 1 and a half pages & even then they weren't "full" pages to fill. So, a couple of fillers went in from Fish & Game. On the page saved for obits, three births that came in over the weekend, a missionary return that just arrived this morning & the Preston School District's announcement that President Obama's address will be taped & shared in the Preston High School library at 6 p.m. Thursday night for any parents & children wishing to view it, were inserted.
In the high school library, no less. I told Don I'm going just to see what subversiveness the president of the United States would share with our school children. I probably won't need to go early either because they're holding it in the high school library, which isn't as small as the old one, but isn't very large either. It reminds me of Nazi Germany, withholding stuff from school children, or shall I say brainwashing the school children. What does this teach our children???
Nick came in at 11 a.m. to talk to me. He couldn't have come at a worse time. Deadline for the paper is at 11 a.m. & I still had 2 pages to go. It's not my deadline either, it's Courtney's deadline & she still had to work on them after I let them go.
I left work at 12:15, with the work baskets uncleared. I had to go over to Mother's, get something to eat & be to DUP by 1. I had not called Nick back, so I called him. He wanted to talk to me. I came home to talk to him. I told him I had to be to DUP by 1, pick up Mother at 2:30 & she had to be to her doctor's appt. in Logan by 3 p.m. I also told him that I'd call the guy he's been trying to get hold of later.
I left the house at 12:55. There was no time to go over to Mother's & get the flag (she's the parliamentarian for DUP) or get either of us anything to eat. I went right to DUP & was a few minutes late. Then I remembered I needed the minutes from May to read. I went out to the car to get them & couldn't find the binder, grrr.
I left right at 2:30, got over to Mother's & she was ready, including the portable oxygen tank. I was pulling out of the driveway when I remembered I hadn't grabbed the inhaler, the discharge notes from Logan Regional Emergency Room from Thursday, Sept. 3, or the 2 new scrips. I went back in, grabbed those & we took off again, 10 minutes late. We had 20 minutes to get to Logan for her 3 o'clock appt. Obviously, we did not make it.
I have detailed Mother's doctor's appt. on her Caring Bridges site. After the doctor's appt, we went to Juniper Take Out for something to eat. Don called to say he was home while we were still sitting at the table. Mother loves shopping at the Dollar Tree in Smithfield, so we stopped there.
Nick called when we were in Whitney, angry because I had told him I'd come home after DUP to call the guy for him. I don't remember telling him when I'd do it, I said later. I distinctly remember telling him my schedule.
We got home & I gave Mother her steroid pill & her antibiotic, gave her an inhaler treatment, found the orange roll Beth Gunnell had sent home from DUP & put the salad, also from DUP, in a covered bowl in the fridge. I cleaned her bi-pap mask, & filled the humidifier for the bi-pap with water.
From there, I went to the grocery store & shopped for supper & got some soda pop. Something I had been yelled at by Nick between work & DUP for not having any. I gave him $5 & told him to go buy his own. He didn't.
I came home, fixed supper & just now remembered I forgot to put my skirt & jacket in the dryer. I thought of it when I went out to the freezer to exchange the 2 cup container of chicken for the 1 cup container. I had called Don & asked him to get a container of chicken with a purple lid out of the freezer. He got a blue lidded container out. It was still frozen, so I just exchanged them, but didn't take time to throw the clothes into the dryer.
Yesterday, on the way to the wedding, I was looking at my navy blue flowered skirt & commented that there was enough cat hair on the hem to knit a new cat. I looked a little further & found a big smear of dried cat poop on the hem of my skirt. I considered how I could get it off & decided to leave it. But, after fingering the cat poop, I didn't want to shake hands with anyone at the wedding either, know what I mean? Once we got to the wedding chapel, I hurried in & washed my hands, but there were no paper towels or hand dryer to dry my hands on. I had to dry them on my skirt.
When we got home last night, I just took my skirt & jacket & threw them in the washer, thinking I would put them in the dryer this morning. Well, it didn't happen. I hope I remember in the morning.

Wedding at the Old Rock Church
Today was Ashley & Kyle Terry's wedding at the Old Rock Church in Providence. The venue is lovely & the wedding was beautiful.
They couldn't get the bishop or stake president to marry them & I found out why today. They had written their own vows. Kyle's dad, Ronnie, officiated. He had done what he needed to so he could marry them. He did a wonderful job. Wow!!
They also lit candles. Kyle lit the memorial candle for those who have died & knelt & prayed. Then Kyle's mother, Melva, lit a candle & then Ashley's mom. After the ceremony or maybe as part of it, Kyle & Ashley lit a candle. I remember when Pam, my boss at Hillhaven got married, their candle kept going out. Ronnie said the candle is supposed to be lit first & then extinguished so that when the bride & groom light the candle it will stay lit. He forgot to do it. However, the candle lit & stayed lit. Hmmm, lighting candles is not part of an LDS service either.
Eddie went, but Nick didn't. Nick got pulled over for speeding yesterday on the way to Hyrum for the rehearsal dinner, sigh. This makes his third speeding ticket. He was angry & worried about the insurance going up. I'm sure the insurance will go up. How many tickets do you get before they pull your license? Anyone know? I guess I could go online & check.
The Terrys, Mel, Ronnie, Kyle & Ashley, leave for Mississippi tomorrow. Ronnie's mom (Trish), grandma (Wilma) & brother (Matt) are leaving for Cortez, Colo., in the Four Corners area. Matt said he lives 10 miles inside the Utah state line. Mel's mom, sister & brother came by car, I think. I'm not sure, but I think they still live in Cortez also. Mel's sister Linda said she was going to drive into Idaho, just so she could say she's been here, LOL. I told Don that is exactly what I did when I accompanied an older sister missionary to the Tennessee Nashville Mission. We drove over the state line just so I could say I had been in Mississippi.

Labor Day Weekend
It's amazing that September is here, with the last long weekend of the summer. I have to admit fall is my favorite time of year, now that I no longer have to fight with school. I always dreaded fall as a kid in school & as my kids were in school. But I've always loved the warm, mellow days, beautiful leaves & cool evenings of autumn. You don't have to deal with the mud & cold days in the spring, or the hot, muggy days of summer, or the bitter cold & snow of winter.
Don & Nick have some online friends visiting, Melva & Ron Terry from Mississippi, & Gordon & Colin from Washington State. The Terrys are here for their son Kyle's wedding. Kyle is marrying a girl from Cache Valley on Monday. One of her parents, father I think, lives in Miss & her mom here. We met Kyle & Ashley earlier in the year.
We met them last night at Golden Corral for dinner. There were 10 people there, Ron, Melva, Kyle & Ashley, Ron's mother Trish & grandmother Wilma, Gordon & Colin, Matt (Ron's brother) & John, besides the 4 of us. Don, Nick & Eddie knew the majority of the people there from Runescape, an online game. They've known each other for several years. It was fun as they were introducing themselves by their user names. It confused me no end though as Don calls them by their given name or their user name, rarely interchanging them. They were talking about other friends that weren't there, so I had to ask for a user name, when the given name didn't mean anything to me.
It was fun. I've never seen Nick so animated with total "strangers." He was laughing & talking. It wasn't the usual monotone. They were talking Runescape though.
After dinner, we went out to their house. Check this link out, Logan vacation house rental. Don & I were amazed. It sleeps 16 & there must have been 10 people there already. I don't know if they saved any money over a hotel by the time they paid the deposit & cleaning fee besides the nightly fee, but it was sure nice.
Today, they came up to see the addition to the house, Nick's project car & the Mormon Pioneer Relic Hall in Franklin, the oldest permanent settlement in Idaho. Gordon & Colin from Washington State were on their way home as Colin has to be back in school Tuesday. He was homeschooled & now is in high school. Like Nick was.
Tomorrow there is a potluck rehearsal dinner in Hyrum that we're invited to. Mother's not going, doesn't sound like Don-Mike or Nick are going either, sigh. Tomorrow is Lasagna Sunday, but we didn't prepare for it. I guess if we don't go, we'll have to have zucchini dressing as that's the dish I was taking.
Monday is the wedding. On top of that, Mother is recovering from an acute asthma attack that took us to the Logan Hospital ER Thursday night. Since it's a holiday weekend, I worked yesterday, Friday. I should have finished the paper today, but I hit the floor a running this morning, & finally crashed at 4. I did not make it in to work. I've still got tomorrow & Monday though. We go to press Tuesday, but have Monday off.
At 6 I got up, went over to Mother's to give her another inhaler treatment, fixed her supper (nuked a TV dinner), & made sure she had the antibiotic, but not the steroids. I also went to the grocery store to buy more TV dinners & stuff for my covered dish for the potluck tomorrow & supper tonight. I took Mother's groceries to her, came home & fixed supper.
I stayed up until 3 last night waiting for Sam, our yellow tom cat, to come in. And so even though I had a 2 hour nap, I'm ready for bed tonight.
