Not posting much

So, I missed some comments, sorry about that ladies. Since the April Rose fiasco, I put some restraints on my blog. I think I'll take off the comment moderation though.

FlyLady's habit for June was to drink water. I was going to find my stainless steel water bottle, but no luck, even though I have half-heartedly looked. I think I need to look a little harder for it & for a few other things.

Today I took my mom to Ogden for an audiology appt. to have her hearing checked, wax cleaned out & renew the insurance on her hearing aids. I have had an outstanding balance of $49.95 since last June there. About six weeks ago, the secretary/bookkeeper asked me to please pay. I said I would. I pulled money out of my savings, had 3 money orders made out, one for McKenzie Law Office for the Cache Valley Specialty Hospital, one for the plumber, & one for audiology. I didn't send the audiology one. So, today, first thing before she even said hi, was to ask for payment. I said I planned on paying it, then she was all gushy & friendly. Made me mad, then dang it, I couldn't find the stupid money order. Where oh where did it go? I wrote out a check on Mother's account. Dr. James took the check so I wouldn't have to deal with the secretary. I've GOT to find that money order to repay Mother. Otherwise it's like I lost $50 cash.

The secretary was barely civil to me when I made the appt for Mother. I didn't want to risk trying to make an appt for me & be told I couldn't be seen until I had paid my balance. Today I said I'd find another audiologist. I also told Dr. James that a doctor is only as good as their support staff.

The good news is, I was able to drive all the way to Ogden & back without getting sleepy. Which is a major accomplishment for me. We went through Weston Canyon, which I think adds about 40 miles, but we didn't have to go down through Logan. Since it was a new route for us, it was more interesting.

Mother didn't sleep either. Usually she nods off & sleeps, but she enjoyed the scenery. By the time I got home though, I was nearly batty after listening to the puff-puff of the portable oxygen. I told Don I could still hear it when I got home.

Nick had told us that we had a bald tire & Mother was nearly sick with worry about it blowing out on us. I had looked at the tires, every single one of them have tread. I told Mother to pray then, because we didn't have time to get new tires today.

Senior moments

I feel old, OLD!!! Today we got a wedding announcement at The Citizen for a couple who, although they are 20, I remember as children!!! I remember typing their Santa letters when they were in the 1st & 2nd grades.

I went to pick Mother up to take her to Logan for her protime (3.3). It took us a while to get out of town. Mother has fluid in her lungs & she needs the oxygen to help her breathe. She is always so short of breath. I put her portable oxygen in the car. I stopped to get her a drink at the Conoco & as we turned out on to State Street she asked about the oxygen. I said I needed to go home anyway, so we'd just go home & I'd turn it on there. As we turned off the highway onto our street I noticed Lady, our next door neighbor's black lab, crossing the railroad tracks heading to the highway. I said to Mother, "Is that Lady?" Mother said, "No, she's not skinny enough." Well, it looked like Lady to me. I stopped the car, opened the door & yelled her name. She didn't stop, nor did she slow down crossing the highway & cars were coming.

I got home & called the neighbor. The phone rang & rang. When he finally answered I said his name & then said, "This is RaNae. Is Lady home?"

And he said, "Who?"

And I said, "Lady, your dog. Is she around?"

"Well, I think she is. I just saw her," he answered. Then said, "Who is this?"

I said, "RaNae, your neighbor. Just now when I crossed the railroad tracks she was crossing the highway going north, up by where *** Smith used to live."

He said he'd go get her. I went back to the garage & was telling Nick about an incident that happened a week ago. A few minutes later, here came the neighbor back, herding Lady in front of his pickup. I saw him out in the driveway as I was leaving & yelled out to him, "Where'd you find her?"

He said that he'd found her up across the big intersection just roaming around. He also said that she had just lost her freedom. He was going to have to chain her up. A week ago, Saturday, she came up missing & they retrieved her from the pound about a week ago today.

When I went down to feed Mufasa, I noticed Lady in her kennel as I came back up. I would much rather see a dog in a kennel than on a chain.

Anyway, when I got here, I had no clue why I was here. I racked my brain trying to remember why I "needed" to go home. Finally, I just conceded that the neighbor's late wife was telling me I needed to come home to save Lady. I don't know why else I would need to go home so desperately & then get here & not be able to remember why.

I have tried all afternoon to remember what I needed. I have lots of senior moments but can soon remember what I had forgotten.

April Rose

UPDATE: Now I found I was duped, just like thousands of others. This was a hoax. I had become emotionally invested in B's story. I found the answer thanks to a friend (thx CM) who blogged about it. She calls it the "ugly side of blogging." And yes, it is.

She changed her name & plans to "clean" up her site to no longer include her family's real names. I don't know that I will go to that extent, I'm lazy, but I think I will change the status of who can view my blog. I have found it very therapeutic to write. I have always found it therapeutic to write.

Little April Rose was born alive yesterday, Sunday, June 7 (see my entry about baby blogs). She weighed 4 lb., something. Today I hurried home from work to see how she is doing & there was an entry from April's daddy that he had closed the blog. I just checked now on my way to bed, as I have done for the past several weeks, & the blog's gone!!!! Gone! They took it down because of hateful artwork & emails. I just want to sit here & cry. I want to know how she's doing. I'll just have to keep praying for her family.

Thankfully, Jonah is doing well. He had some sweet potatoes today, his first food, & there was a sweet picture of a messy face. His Papa Jim, great-grandfather, can't go see him because of an ongoing cold. I saw Jim today, he stopped in at The Citizen on his way through town.

Got so ... depressed

Snippets of song lyrics just kind of randomly pop into my head. Tonight I was visiting with Mother & she is so confused, depressed & just plain negative. So, as I left her house tonight the America song, "Sister Golden Hair," just blared into my mind ...
Well I tried to make it Sunday
but I got so damned depressed
It's Sunday, but my depression isn't caused by a man & trying to decide on marriage! Is this a direct contradiction to my last post, "Just another day in paradise?" No, not really. Is my depression situational or clinical? Is it caused by my son, my mother & I guess life in general? Or is it clinical depression or soft bipolar or whatever I have? I just want to sit here & bawl.

Sunday means nothing to my sons. Don-Mike goes out to the bone (car junk) yard & gets parts for his car. He comes in all psyched because he's made definite progress on his project, Nick's Christmas Jeep, that he didn't want & sold to Don-Mike.

The "boys" are now off to see the movie "Wolverine." I won't go to a movie on Sunday, even if it is "The Sound of Music," which I dearly love, or "Night at the Museum II," which I want to see. There's nothing wrong with shopping or going to movies or whatever on Sunday as long as I don't have to do it. To me, the Sabbath is the seventh day the Lord talks about in Exodus. It is one of the Ten Commandments. He devotes 4 verses to this commandment, explaining it. It has been a big internal fight to even go out to eat on Sunday or buy gas. Yes, it can always be explained away by Luke 1:5
“And answered them saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?"
But how is a movie a life or death situation?

A short update on church callings. Don & I have been in the library almost 2 years now. I have the calling, along with another lady that is a nurse & works every other Sunday. Sometimes she comes in, sometimes she doesn't, so Don has just taken it upon himself to be my helper in the library. He's never received that calling. He has a calling to be the ward web page specialist, but has never done anything with it. Something I'd love to do. He needs the password & hasn't ever got it. He also teaches the 4th Sunday Priesthood lesson in Elders Quorum.

The lady preparing the Sunday program every Sunday has been trying to get out of that calling for the last couple of years, finally about 3 months ago, she just quit. The bishop's wife, who is also the Relief Society secretary, & has two small children, took the job.

About a month ago, Debbie was complaining that she didn't like getting the program on Saturday afternoon, she liked it earlier in the week like she'd been getting. I told one of the counselors in the bishopric that Debbie would like to do the program herself. He turned to her & asked her. She said she wouldn't mind. So, he went right down & talked to the bishop, within 30 minutes he was back & said the bishop wanted to talk to her. I said, as she left, "There's your new calling." She came back & yes, it was. She had accepted it. She's been doing it for 3 weeks.

Today, the bishop said they were going to release her, they didn't want to double people up on their callings. I asked him to do me a favor & call Don to work in the library. He was surprised & asked Don if he had never been called to work in the library. Don said no. So, he said he would.

Saturday, June 6

Just another day in paradise ... not the one Bertie Higgins wrote about, the down & out in the tropics or paradise, but the Phil Vassar lyrics
Yeah it's ok. It's so nice.
It's just another day in paradise.
Well, there's no place that
I'd rather be
there's also a line about the dog barking at the mailman bringing another stack of overdue bills - argh - sometimes I'd like to bark at the mailman :\

But, just a normal day & I'm off to bed. Thank the good Lord for the Internet. Last night I spent 2 and half hours chatting with a friend in Mississippi. Tonight I chatted for a few minutes with a neighbor through the block. She ignored some of my questions, but hey, without Facebook, I would never have talked to either of these wonderful women. Sometimes just through the block is as far away as Mississippi or New York or California. Nor would I have got updates on my baby blogs.

I have this brown spot that just showed up on my arm yesterday, I think I'll have it checked out Monday or Tuesday, looks ominous.

When I went to pick up my meds today my lexapro, normally $90 was only $15!!! Woo hoo, doin' a happy dance.

Another baby blog

Dave & Tanya's blog for their baby Jonah opened a whole new addiction for me - blog surfing. Is there such a thing? I "subscribe" to & read way too many blogs. And one blog leads to another.

One journey sent me to Little April Rose, a young single mother, whose unborn daughter is diagnosed with Trisomy 13 and Holoprosencephaly & isn't expected to live through the birth experience. This young mother, "B," is amazing. A few weeks ago she started a prayer register, if I may call it that. People were emailing her ASKING for HER prayers. So, she started "His Will Wednesday." Through yesterday's entry I found little Gwendolyn Strong who has spinal muscular atrophy or SMA. I have buttons for both of these blogs in the sidebar on my blog.

I try not to read through them all at once. I admit, I did Dave & Tanya's, I couldn't stop reading. Little Gwendolyn is 20 months old & since I didn't find her until tonight, there are almost 2 years of entries to read. Her parents celebrate each month's birthday, as children with SMA don't usually live past 2 years old.

Through a cousin's blog, I found a really cool website. Janelle writes:
I tend to read the emails that come to my inbox. I read my blogs. I read my facebook page. But I struggle "finding the time" to read the scriptures. I just forget. So this site sends me an email with the days scripture chapter. I can read it or listen to it. Then tomorrow it sends me the next chapter. Today it took 6 minutes for it to read the first chapter. If I have the time to spend 10 minutes on facebook (at least), 10 minutes on blogs (multiple times a day) and however many minutes on email, then I have the time to read 6 minutes a day before all of that.
So, I subscribed to Read The Scriptures & decided I'd "read" the Doctrine & Covenants, since Don & I are in the library & don't get to Sunday School, Relief Society or Priesthood. I tried listening to it, & found that I'd just as soon read it to myself. So, today I read the first chapter of the D&C.

I haven't really kept up on my "moving" since May is over, but I'm still thinking of it & still don't park close to the door, unless I have Mother with me. I walked the stairs at the clinic on Tuesday, but took the elevator down with Mother. June's habit is drinking water. Ewww :( that's a toughy. One I try ever few months, but Lent taught me something. I can focus on a "habit" for a set period of time. I've also kept trying to make it to bed at midnight & most nights I do pretty good.
