It took me almost 9 months, minus 3 weeks, to read the Old Testament. I could've had a baby in that time. My babies were both born 3 weeks early.
I read the Old Testament in the Old Testament Seminary class I took as a senior in high school, but as I read through it this time, I'm shaking my head in disbelief. I wondered many times where my mind was in seminary. (Of course, I also realize that was over 40 years ago.) I read the LDS Institute of Religion's Old Testament Student Manual 1 Kings–Malachi - Religion 302 along with the Old Testament this time. I still have a couple of chapters left in it.I chose to read Isaiah last & I'm glad I made that decision. Now, as I read the Book of Mormon, I will read parts of Isaiah again; only this time it will be the pure scripture because it was taken from the Brass Plates of Laban & will not have gone through all of the translations. I can't wait to see how the Institute of Religion's Book of Mormon manual will treat Isaiah.

Wow!!! I'm proud of you. Wayne and I still have about 200 pages left in the Old Testament and we started it in November 2009. He has us read a couple of chapters in the New Testament after our OT reading so I can be happy and actually understand what I am reading.
PS - Did you read the entire OT plus the institute books? That is a lot of reading for 8 1/2 months!!!
Yes, I did read the OT plus both institute books. Some nights I'd be reading/ studying for over an hour. I finally decided I had to limit myself to 20 minutes to half an hour. Which is why it took me longer.
We haven't been really regular in our OT reading....about 4 - 5 days a week. No wonder we are slow! Wayne says we can finish it in less than two months if we JUST DO IT! I'm ready because then I can get on to more understandable reading, such as finishing the D&C. Proud of you, RaNae!!!
