I knew she had been sick & had "throat cancer." I was surprised to see her obituary in today's Herald Journal, especially since we had not received her obituary at work. And funeral services are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.
One Tuesday I got a call from Mr. John Palmer, the principal of the Preston Junior High School telling me he thought Nick needed some intervention. He was afraid Nick was suicidal. I called Pam & she said to bring him right up. Her office was in a beautiful old Victorian house next to her home up Mink Creek.
Of course, it had to be Tuesday, the day the paper went to press. In order to get time off on press day, you had to call in dead. I was gone 2 hours, my car (an '85 Toyota Corolla) died, Nick was supposed to be under suicide watch & I had to get back to work. I do remember I got back to work, I think Mother kept Nick & the paper got out. My car wasn't worth fixing. It had over 250,000 miles on it.
